Description
The KROHNE OPTIFLUX 6000 electromagnetic flow sensor is the solution for sanitary and hygienic applications. The KROHNE OPTIFLUX 6000 electromagnetic flow sensor has an improved design with calculated stress points and superior mesh support, making it ideal for use in large-scale production plants.
3×100% Diagnostics
The KROHNE OPTIFLUX 6000 electromagnetic flow sensor overcomes the drawbacks of some SIL2-certified equipment:
- Detects errors unrecognised under SIL2
- Indicates erroneous results in the application (e.g. because of gas bubbles), which SIL2 cannot do
- Corrects errors in accuracy and linearity, again unseen by SIL2
The 3×100% diagnostics in the KROHNE OPTIFLUX 6000 electromagnetic flow sensor is, therefore, much better for you than a normal SIL2 certified meter.
The KROHNE OPTIFLUX 6000 Electromagnetic Flow Sensor – One For All Applications
With just one signal converter and the widest range of flow sensors, the KROHNE OPTIFLUX 6000 electromagnetic flow sensor covers all applications, from a simple water measurement to corrosive or abrasive products or even pulp in the paper industry. Simplified engineering, procurement, and inventory lead to cost-savings for the user.
Sets New Standards in Electromagnetic Flowmetering
Using brand new technology has enabled us to increase the measuring performance of the KROHNE OPTIFLUX 6000 electromagnetic flow sensor even further. These improvements are particularly useful where today's product changes with corresponding changes in pH, or the measurement of pulp in the paper industry. This increase in performance was possible by a 30-fold improvement in the measuring technology components.
Operating Principle
Magnetic flow meters are intended to measure the flow of electrically conductive liquids in full pipes. The pressure drop through the meter is minimal, (equal in magnitude to a piece of pipe of the same diameter and length) making it an excellent choice for low pressure systems. There are no moving parts or obstructions in the fluid stream so the meter is virtually maintenance free and suitable for fluids containing abrasives. Modern pulsed DC excitation eliminates problems with zero shift often found in other designs.
The detection of flow is accomplished using the principle of electromagnetic induction. As a conductor passes through a magnetic field, a voltage is generated that is proportional to the velocity of the conductor moving through the field. In the case of the magnetic flow meter, the conductor is a conducting liquid. The higher the flow rate the greater the generated voltage.
Grounding Rings
For process flow measurement reasons the product must be grounded. Such a grounding system is lacking in pipes upstream and downstream of the primary head which feature a corrosion-resistant internal coating or liner, or are made entirely of plastics material. In such cases, grounding rings must be fitted on both sides of the primary head. Consult us for further information.

Here's how some of our customers use this product...
Metering Flow inside a Brewery
The Background: Our customer is a brewery that needs an accurate and reliable solution for measuring the flow of beer as it moves through the various stages of production.
The Problem: The customer had previously relied on turbine meters as they are a simple and reliable solution. Turbine meters work well for clean water but have a difficult time with all other liquids involved in the brewing process resulting in issues with accuracy, cleaning, maintenance, wear, and foaming.
The Solution: The Krohne Optiflux 6000 is the ideal meter for brewery applications. It has sanitary connections, no moving parts, is FDA approved, EGEDG and 3A certified, and SIP and CIP rated. The metering technology ensures high accuracy even when metering fluids of differing viscosity or with suspended solids. With no moving parts to wear or break there are little to no maintenance costs and no risk of broken meter parts flowing into the process, reducing overall metering costs over the life of the meter.
Milk Pasturization Loop
The Background: Our customer is a farm that uses a re-circulation loop for milk being pasteurized before being fed to calves. They seek a means to measure the flow of this loop.
The Problem: The customer wants a non-mechanical meter that can read as quickly and as accurately as possible from an empty pipe to a full flow pipe. The customer also requires an easy way to reset the internal totalizer between batches going to the feeding troughs.
The Solution: We recommended the Krohne OPTIFLUX 6000 electromagnetic flow sensor paired with a Krohne IFC-3200 signal converter. The Optiflux 6000 carries with it all the sanitary approvals and certifications this customer requires for the milk industry. With no moving parts, the meter will provide many years of reliable service. The IFC300 flow converter has a control input function where a simple external button can be wired in to reset the totalizers. This prevents the workers from having to go into the transmitter programming to reset the totals thereby eliminating the possible of programming changes and errors.
