Description
The Watlow MI band heater is a high performance band heater developed to meet the need for higher watt densities, operating temperatures, and greater efficiencies today's technology demands.
The performance and name of the Watlow MI band heater are derived from Watlow's exclusive mineral insulation - a material that has much higher thermal conductivity than the mica and hard ceramic insulators used in conventional heaters. The design of the Watlow MI band heater reduces the backside temperature resulting in improved clamping, better heat transfer, and, ultimately, higher thermal efficiency.
The Watlow MI band heater is constructed with a thin layer of high thermal conductivity MI material that separates the element wire from the inside diameter sheath. A thicker, lower thermal conductivity layer backs up the element wire to direct the heat inward towards the barrel. This special construction promotes longer life of the Watlow MI band heater because the sheath can operate at high temperatures with low internal wire temperatures.
The Watlow MI band heater is formed before the leads or post terminals are attached so they do not interfere with the curving process. The result is an exceptionally round heater that fits the barrel tightly and conducts its heat uniformly with minimal hot spots.
The Watlow MI band heater has extremely even heat distribution. Stainless steel clamping bars help contribute to even heat because the bars extend the full width of the Watlow MI band heater for clamping uniformity around the barrel.
The Watlow MI band heater will withstand shock, vibration, and plastic drool. Side folds are positioned on the inside diameter of the band to resist contaminants from entering the Watlow MI band heater and causing premature failure.
With performance temperatures reaching 760°C (1400°F), watt densities up to 35.65 W/cm2 (230 W/in2), uniform heat distribution, and more efficient and higher performance, Watlow MI band heaters are the ideal choice for plastics processing equipment.
