Description

The Yokogawa UM33A digital indicator with alarms is a 1/8 DIN indicator designed to monitor and display processes such as temperature, pressure, flow rate, and other types of data while providing an alarm when an input signal reaches a preset value.

The Yokogawa UM33A digital indicator has up to eight alarm outputs and eight screen display points, twice the number of comparable models. A dedicated program eases the task of entering alarm values and other information, eliminating the need to input them using the keys on the front panel of each device. Measurements are shown on the large, easy to ready, 14 segment color LCD. The UM33A includes a scrolling text feature for parameters, user-friendly navigation, programmable function keys, user settable default values, and RS-485 (Modbus/RTU, peer to peer, coordinated, PC-Link) communications.

Applications

Here's how some of our customers use this product...

Rate of Change Alarm

The Background: Our customer is a pharmaceutical company. Their manufacturing procedures contain a number of critical process parameters which they monitor closely to ensure their assets are healthy and production standards are within the strict limits necessary for their industry. They are seeking a way to provide the earliest warning possible for impending alarms which would indicate these critical process parameters have been exceeded.

The Problem: Most controllers or panel meters have alarm points that can be set according to the needs of the process. These alarms, however, but only inform users when the set-points have been reached. This can be too late for certain critical process parameters. Simply lowering set-points, however, can lead to numerous false alarms.

The Solution: We recommended the Yokogawa UM33A panel meter which, in addition to 4 standard alarm outputs, has an additional "rate-of-change" alarm. Users can program this "rate-of-change" alarm to warn if a parameter is rising a selected amount over a selected time, providing reliable early warning for impending alarms.
