Description
The M-Series® Mag Meter model M5000 detector is the result of years of research and field use in electromagnetic flow meters. Based on Faraday's Law of Induction, these battery powered meters can measure well water, wastewater, reclaimed water, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and bi-directional flow applications that have minimal electrical conductivity.
Designed, developed and manufactured under strict quality standards, the M-Series meter features sophisticated, processor-based signal conversion with accuracies of ±0.50%. The wide selection of liner and electrode materials helps ensure maximum compatibility and minimum maintenance over a long operating period.
Because of its inherent advantages over other more conventional technologies, this meter can be used in the majority of industrial flow applications. Whether the fluid is water, highly corrosive, very viscous, contains a moderate amount of solids, or requires special handling, this meter accurately measures fluid flow. Today, magnetic meters are successfully used in industries including pharmaceutical, water and wastewater, and chemical.
Applications for the Badger Meter M5000 Mag Flow Meter:
- Water and Wastewater
- Well Water and Reclaimed Water
- Bi-directional flow applicaations
- Food and Beverage

Here's how some of our customers use this product...
Groundwater Flow Tracking / Data Logging
The Background: Our customer is an engineering firm that specializes in minimizing the environmental impact of projects to ease regulatory approval. They seek a flow metering solution for a dewatering project in an effort to treat the contaminated groundwater.
The Problem: As this is a remote location, the customer requires a battery powered, low flow solution. The customer is most interested in the flow rates of the groundwater in the 3/4" pipe which means a data logger is also required.
The Solution: We recommended the Badger Meter M5000 electromagnetic flow meter, a battery powered meter which is perfectly suited for the low to medium flow rates produced by the dewater pumps. With the addition of the data logger feature kit, the customer can download the data weekly and with some analysis/manipulation, infer an average flow rate between the totalizer values which the logger stores along with its timestamp. This level of data recovery was suitable for this customer, however, we can pair a Madgetech Pulse 101A data logger with the M5000 if more data points were required. This allows the system to run and log for a longer period of time without a required data dump to free up memory.
Ship Bilge Output Tracking
The Background: Our customer is a marine engineering firm that is working with a shipbuilder to create a system to measure the amount of water removed from a ship via bilge pumps. This information allows the shipbuilder to see how much water is leaking into the ship and also helps determine the if the capacity of the bilge pumping system is adequate.
The Problem: Bilge water is dirty, nasty stuff. It includes all the seawater, oils, fuels, solvents, debris and anything else that has found its way to bottom of the ship. Because bilge water contains solids, the flow meter cannot have any internal obstruction. Also, as this set-up will be moved around as it’s required, portability and easy set-up is required.
The Solution: We recommended the Badger Meter M5000 electromagnetic flow meter. The M5000 is a battery operated meter with a battery life rated up to 10 years making it a long lasting easy meter solution for a portable skid. It is also compatible with whatever might be found in the bilge and has no parts that can snag debris and cause clogs.
